jack shaft question

the drivers side jack shaft on my 87 broke, let me refrase, the tip of the jack shaft broke off. has anyone else had this happen? i'm currently searching for a used replacement {the dealership quoted me $300} or if anyone has a manual tranny from 87/88 that crapped out , i would be willing to buy the stub shaft.
