Has anyone noticed a difference in mileage from one brand of fuel to the next? I've always filled-up with Shell Gold (er, "V-Power" I guess), but two nights ago I bought Esso (what Exxon is called in Canada) due to a huge price difference. While I was getting about 20-24mpg on Shell each night (200km nightly rural paper route, lots of stopping), the Esso/Exxon premium has bumped that up around 3-4mpg more. Anyone else noticed this?
I'm surprised because the variations in actual fuel quality (read: octane ratings and sulphur content) between the different oilcorps are really very small. I can't think of anything (other than winter additives) that would account for such a difference.
Oh yeah, one other thing I don't understand: my throttle response is
noticeably crisper with the Esso gas. Acceleration at WOT is
much smoother across the band, as well. I just don't get it! But I'm not complaining...
