3rd Generation Squealing Brakes

OK. Just replaced the rotors and pads on my car and they are squeeling like crazy at even the slightest touch of the pedal. Took everything apart and looked at it and nothing appears to be wrong, but still with the squealing.

Any Thoughts?

Did you put the anti-squeak shims back on the backs of the pads and were those shims still in good shape? You either have to use the shims or spray the backs of the pads with something like Permatex Disc Brake Quiet and give it a few minutes to set up before installing the pads. If you don't use one or the other the brakes will squeak like crazy from the vibration of the pads.

Sometimes the pad material itself can cause the squeaking. What type of pads did you use (organic, semi-metalic, semi-ceramic, or full ceramic) and what brand?

Mike

Try these
1. The rotors may not have been finished right. Sand em a little with fine emery clothe for a minute or two, then clean with brake cleaner.
2. Like Mike said, make sure that anti squeal shims are in place if they are supposed to be.
3. Get some anti squeal goop from the auto parts store. This stuff is a gluey substance like thin silicone sealant in texture. Remove the pads and lay them lining side down and apply this goop as directed on the back of the pads. reassemble brakes.
4. Check to make sure your caliper pistons are not sticking. If you jack up the car and try and turn the wheel, they should spin more or less freely with just a little scraping from the pads. If they turn hard and seem hot after driving, you might have sticky pistons and need to fix calipers.
5, Make sure the slider pins in the calipers are clean and greased with high temp brake grease. The pins allow the caliper to slide with the motion of the piston and pads. If they are dry and sticking, this could affect brake noise.

Nomis, you did get decent ceramic pads right? Not some $13.99 ebay special I hope.
