2nd Generation AC/Heat

Hi, I have a 1990 Camry DX. I was wandering, the heat and A/C only work on high. It doesn't work on Low and all those other settings except for high. Any help in what is wrong? Also must be common for 2nd gen Camrys to rust the wheel wells. Every Camry I see that looks like mine has rust on the wheel wells. Mine isn't bad right now but I better do something do fix it so it doesnt spread . What would you guys recommend?

For the fan speeds, you have a bad blower motor resistor. Do a search on this forum for "blower motor resistor" and read away. There should be several articles on it.

As for the rust, take it to a body shop and ask them about the cost of the fix and how long it will last. This really is an area for a professional.

It is the blower motor resistor! I pulled mine out and those damn coils were burnt up and tattered! But i'm not ready to spend frikkin' $90 bucks from the dealership or $50 bucks from an online salvage to get my fan working on low speeds. I'll just live with it.

Or go to a junkyard and hunt for one that still works... You can clearly see whether its still good or not just by looking at the coils on the resistors. It should be just a few bucks each if you pull it yourself.

$36 is cheap. I wasn't aware they were available in the aftermarket. Thanks for letting us all know about it.

If you're not in a rush keep an eye on eBay. They come up occassionally. Sometimes you get one for 99 cents + shipping.
