defensivedriving.com..... that should keep your insurance rates from going up... at least mine didn't when I got mine a few years back. Don't contest the ticket... if the cop shows up you have to pay the fine and court fees...$$$. However, generally most officersdo not show up on court dates. Only get a lawyer if you want to contest the ticket and not go to court. Usually you can find lawyers who just hang around the courthouses doing just that... not too expensive from what I understand. Good Luck.

However.. if you're in Ontario Canada, the cop WILL show up, as they get paid down here for court time.. unlike in the US where they do not get paid in most states (i think).

Oh yes they do. Those bastards get overtime for going to court in the U.S. Damn cops. I just got a ticket for going 75 is a 65, which is BS! I am contesting it by mail. The cop has to write a letter in order for them to rule against me and he doesnt get paid for that. F*ck the police!

depends where you live... alot of cities do not pay the officers to go to court anymore... seems that many were saying they went to court and getting the hours, when they never went... figures. If it is a first offense just take defensive driving.... try to do it online if you can.... I went to some place and took mine. It took all day long, I learned shit, and they fed me crap.... I'd rather pay the fine then do that shit over again. It's based on time not what you learn... something like a mandatory six hours. :

FYI: some cops now give you the option to pay right then and there with a credit card... :-? . Where I live they are super anal about all of this because they included future revenue from tickets into our city budget... and now we have a big defecit.
