Cathodes installed now relay freaking out

I just finished installing my CCFLs, but now the relay clicks rapidly as the Dome light dims. It really does not bother me, but will I cause damage to the Relay or inverters? If so how can I fix it.

How do you have the relay hooked up?

Are you using the dome light to trigger the relay?

Yep. I used the connection in the Dirver side A pillar. I have the hot and door trigger from the A pillar running down to the relay. The output goes to the center console and the inverter uses a screw on the hand brake as it's ground.

The problem is that your using the dome light to trigger the relay.

Since the dome light slowly dims out, it causes the relay to freak out. When the dome light is on, theres no problem since theres enough current to keep the relay fully triggered. But as it dims out theres not enough current to keep the relay triggered, so it freaks out (the rapid clicking).

You can fix it by using the door trigger wire to trigger the relay.

See diagram in thread below:

You don't need the switches or diode (1N4001).

That was what I was going off in the past. I was never able to find the red/white wire. I looked at the electrical wiring diagram for the 2002 and that was the closest I could find. I read online somewhere that the Gree/red wire was what the gen5 uses, and thats what I also use. Is there something that I can use that will gaurentee 12V (a diode allows current to flow one way, is there something that will only allow 12Vs to go through)?

Well obviously its the wrong wire.

From what you've said, that sounds like the dome light wire. I don't have a gen 5, so I can't check for you.

As far as I know the door trigger wire is red/white (red wire with white stripe).

If you have a DMM you can find the correct wire. The door trigger wire outputs -12V (negative 12V) whenever any door is open.

No.

Your not understanding the purpose of a diode. It doesn't matter in your case since you don't need one.

Follow this diagram, but don't use a switch:

I used that diagram. I poked around the driver kick panel, even tested all the red/white wires with my DMM, none of them seem to be the door trigger. I will go and check again tomorrow.

I understand the function of a diode. I was wondering if there was a way for the relay to cut out when the voltage falls below 12v. The CCFLs dim along with the Dome light.

As it is, will I damage the relay by letting it do that?
