Gen5 adaptive tranny? kick down?

Does the GEN 5 Automatics have an adaptive transmission or a kick down feature?

It has an ECT-I tranny. Or (ELECTRONICLY CONTRONED TRANSMISSION). What it does is learns how the driver drives ans selects the correct shift points based on the style of your driveing. And yes they do seam to downshift alot.

Cool!!! Glad to hear that it has a learning capability to adaptive to a drivers style.

Question 2. How do you reset it back to default if you wanted to. There should be some kind of sequence that yhou do to the car to reset it back to factory settings. What is it?

There must be more slick way to reset it besides disconnecting the battery. Even the old VW's, back in mid 90's had a sequence of events to reset the adaptive tranny, such as turn key to ON position, press on Gas pedal, etc. and turn key off. This is a 2002 Toyota.

Yeah, now that I've been driving my '05 for a month - I notice it shifts later.. It fits my driving style perfectly.

Cool. Does your manual tell you how to set it back to factory settings if you wanted to? I hope its not just pulling the battery. That is pretty primative.

I never thought about that.
That explains why my '05 loves to downshift a couple of gears when I'm driving down a steep mountain hill. I don't even have to brake or turn off the overdrive button. Sometimes it doesn't want to upshift when the road straightens out so I have to smack the overdrive button off then back on to get it to shift.
Kooky.

i hope the 07 camry have better drive by wire systems because i hate our highlander's system. I dont know why they use it when they havent been able to make it work as well as the regular drive by cable system. I drove my friend's brand new saab which has drive by wire and its amazing (how i assume it should be). SO i know the system can be good but toyota needs to work on it i guess.
ECT-i can only be reset by disconnectin the battery for 10 -15 minutes.

Anyone know how long for the ECTi system takes to learn your driving habits (how much data it has to collect before it can determine your driving habits).
