Highlander alternator for camry??

I've seen forum threads where people talk about putting a 2003 Highlander v6 alternator on a camry v6...is this true? I have emailed about 5 dealers selling the 2003 highlander alts and they all replied telling me it will not fit. Dealers know nada? or are they right?

yeah i remember this post...his alternator was dying...then replaced his alternator with a 2001 Highlander's ALT. problem solved.

Highlander V6 3.0L engines are 1MZ-Fe...same engine code as the 3.0L V6 used in the camry since... edit '94... same engine code just different dimensions for a different chassis.

you have to have the 1MZ-Fe V6 in your camry for this to work. your dealer is telling you NO because in a way their just covering their asses, to them putting a part from one car into a different car doesn't jive. i would order the part and go to a different mechanic/garage to get it installed.

Didn't the 1MZ-FE start in '94? Before that it was the 3VZ-FE.

I just looked up alternators for both vehicles, and the part #'s are differant which is why the dealer said it wouldn't fit. If Nippon-denso uses differant #'s for these applications, there is a reason for it.

I've seen a thread where this guy found a 2003 highlander alternator off of www.car-part.com for $60...it was a direct bolt on and it worked for him...should I just buy the 160amp alt from excessiveamperage.com for $300? I've heard good things about their alts but the price is a little too high.

It will bolt in just fine. Its not rated to fit because the Highlander has a higher output alternator - get the one for the tow-package equiped highlander and you'll have a stock-reliability 130amp alternator.
