Check the connections on the backside of the instrument panel and try to clean the contact points

when i looked back there they looked clean. i blew some air around to remove whatever dust was in there, and still no movement.

Which sensor did you replace?

If it was the one with two wires, you replaced the wrong one...

The gauge cluster runs off the sensor with one wire. You can also take an multimeter and check the wire going from that sensor to the cluster - the wire color remains the same the whole way. If that doesn't work, find a gauge cluster in the junkyard and replace the temp gauge section of your gauge cluster.

ok, well i'm guessing i changed the wrong one and that would explain why it still doesnt work

where is the sensor with one wire located? and if i change that and the gauge still doesnt work...would it be possible to change the whole instrument cluster with one that has a tach, and wire up the tach to make it functional as well? (i hate not being able to see my engine speed and i want everything to look like it was supposed to be there...which explains why i havent just gone to get an aftermarket tach)

Yes.

Its plug and play, no wiring necessary.

Just make sure to get the right one for your car. I4 and V6 gauge clusters are different.

thanks 88LE, i guess i'm off to the junkyard now for a water temp sender and the cluster.

oh, one other question. will i have to hook up the tach or will it work as soon as the cluster is plugged in?

this wouldn't happen to be the plug for the water temp sender that's UNPLUGGED would it?

http://us.a1.yahoofs.com/users/41c13...ACtGEBJ.iWKqgM

:edit: nevermind, apparently the reason my temp gauge stopped working is be cause the little blue plug in the pic above somehow was unplugged. so now my temp gauge works, but i'm still going to get that cluster with the tach.

has anyone ever came across the instrument clusters for a 4cyl on ebay?

When you get the cluster (best bet is a local junkyard...), swap over your current speedo assembly and you can even keep things correct for you car.

-Charlie

(and yes, it really is plug and play - everything just works as long as you get the cluster for the correct engine)

thats the best news i've heard. cuz when i called the toyota dealer the guy was telling me that the wire number was different and he made it sound like i would have to completely rewire the new cluster. and then he went as far as to tell me to just get an aftermarket one, which there's no way in hell i was going to do that.
