3rd Generation Need suggestion on motor

I apologize in advance everyone, this topic has probably been covered numerous times. I just found out that my engine has succumb to the infamous sludge, and my 5s-fe is no longer recoverable. My question is whether I should get another 5s-fe and turbo it or go the route of 3s-gte? Or any other suggestion.

Also, which of these setups would be most reliable? I doubt that I want to go the V6 way, unless it's not that much more difficult. I really don't want to mess with the transmission if I don't have to. I realize that my A/T isn't really good for higher hp output, so maybe a manual swap, but how difficult would the swap be?

I'm at work, so there are definitely a lot of things I haven't covered, so suggestions are all welcomed. Thanks again everyone!

----Will

If I go the 5s-fte route, would it be reliable? How long have some with 5s-fte been running?

Should I rebuild my current motor or should I acquire a remanufactured motor?
If I get a reman motor, should I get it from Ebay or some other place?

Rebuild the motor you have, no use in buying a 5sfe for $800-$1500 before shipping you could spend less than that to rebuild, for instance, my 5sfe block...

I took it to a machine shop told them i wanted to bore the cylinders, and to order a new crank, pistosn rods rings and pins, they ordered everything for me, i told them that i planned on going with a turbo and they're setting me up with forged rods and pistons, i believe they said the crank was also forged, i cant remember, but all it all, if you do it yourself, im spending about 800 on the rebuild. I also have some head work done, i got a port and polish, and a competition valve job for about 300 bux

I'll probably end up rebuilding the motor, but was wondering was parts I should keep stock and what parts I should upgrade. I will most likely try to put a FI system in, so I need to know how I should approach this rebuild. I won't be pushing too much boost, so what ever I can get away with would be nice.
