How long do the v-belts last?

I searched, but couldnt find it. How many miles/ years should the vbelt last for the p/s and the other for the ac/alt. I just put them on today and was curious.
Thanks,
John

hmmm...that's a pretty good question....

it usually lasts even longer than the timing belt because there's generally less stress on it
but the thing is that if you're going to take your car to get the timing belt done, you may as well spend the extra 30bucks for the belts and let your mechanic change them while he's in there

when I got my timing belt done at 200K km, my other belts had already started making whining noises, so I got them changed as well, and there as a loooooong crack down the back of one of my accessory belts....I htink the p/s belt because it was the still hte original one

Mostly it can be changed when timing belt is changed but can last longer.

The previous belts didnt look too bad, just a few hairline cracks. I was trying to reduce the engine noise, but it turns out it was a bearing in the alternator. The previous owner changed the timing belt pretty early. The car only has 97k mi on it.
