There was an annoying bearing noise for a week or two that degenerated in a light screeching noise that I wanted to investigate this weekend but the pump bearing gave up on my way home from work.
well maim you came to the right place, cause unfortunately changing the water pump means removing the timng belt to get at it. So nows a good time to change that too.
The 4 is a little easier than the V6, someone posted the toyota shop manual procedure for changing it.
^right. There is a good bit of labor involved with replacing the water pump + the timing belt.
The parts aren't that expensive its the labor cost that adds up. I'd recommend you go to a reputable mechanic that has experience with Toyotas before looking into dealership service.
I'm unfortunately not good enough to change it myself, even if I have a Haynes manual and read all kinds of Camry forums religiously since I got the car. Lack of tools but that is soon to change.
I couldn't tow it downtown to my favorite Toyota specialist (not a dealer) right away cause it was far as hell. The Toyota specialist knows my car very well cause he's the only guy who touches it, when I'm not stranded nowhere near him.
details : Screeching noise started being really horrifying after I just came out my street so I promply turned back around and headed home. Car was running fine except for the zombie army rattling their teeth under my hood. Then I braked to turn back in my street and this is where it died, when the shit finally came right off. I 200% remember checking my temp gauge when running back home and it was not overheating, at all. I pulled it in the driveway and opened the hood to notice leakage down the timing belt box, then squeezed the coolant hose and this is where all the crap poured out from underneath.
1.Car did not overheat
2.Car died when going 10km/h, while making a turn.
3.Car never lost a significant amount of coolant until I pressed on the hose.
Now this : I call the other guy from work, says it's the first time he changes these on these Camrys. Not a good start, he says call me back around 4:30pm so I do. Now this motherfucker is saying I need a new engine head cause my valves are apparently bent or some shit, I didn't even ask him to open the head!!! I know the valves on these cars will clear if the timing belt is off, I fucking KNOW it.
My toyota specialist was pissed out of his mind when I called him back. I was so pissed off when I called the mech I don't even know for sure if he opened the head or not. I do know he changed the timing belt and pump. I think the timing is off because he's a retard.
Even if that costs me an arm and leg, I think I'm gonna have my Camry brought downtown to my Toyspec so he takes a look at it tomorrow first thing in the morning.
In the meantime I'll head back there cause my Camry is parked outside and I have a key double to take a look under the hood, I know I have no way to know if my valves and bent or whatever the fuck just by looking under the hood but any recommendations will be welcomed.

I smell
Its a non-interference engine.

Take it to your usual mechanic and have him look at it.
Sounds like the other guy doesn't know WTF he's talking about.
Compression was 180-180-180-175 this morning after I brought my Haynes in an told the guy how to fucking time my own engine so he's remounting everything right now I need to call him back in a few. I'm still gonna take the car to my Toyspec when it runs. Fuck these punks.

This guy deserves to be identified -- at least what town are you in?
How many Km are on it -- compression is real good
Bent valves Yeeaaaaah?
Did he know enough to install a new belt adjuster spring with the new? timing belt?
I'm in Quebec city, it's an Autopro chop in Lac-St-Charles. Called him back around noon the car is running fine I need to go pick it up tomorrow morning. This guy will never lay his hands on my ride again, I'm rolling it straight back to my Toyspec tomorrow after I get it to have him check out the work that was done. I believe the tensionner spring is okay I checked it myself this morning before leaving for work.
All he needed to do was change water pump/timing belt and a couple gaskets and shit I guess, but the valve cover was off this morning I never understood why, and yesterday night when I drove back in his yard to check on my car with a key double there was no alternator, the timing belt was not on, all the pulleys and connectors were bare naked and it was sitting there in the snow. This morning he tried to argue with me that the belt has been on since yesterday afternoon but I don't believe him, I'm not a god damn rocket scientist but I can still see if a belt is on or not, jesus...I should've brought my numeric camera but you know, you usually never get fucked over like this or have to debate such pointless shit normally...
At least I can drive my car out of his half assed garage now and take it where I want to double check everything.
Car is running okay, nothing great. Lots of shaking around when I stop at red lights, deep shaking, not just something buzzing against an egine part, it's a low grumble. Then there's smoke coming from underneath the left radiator fan (when facing the car) where a coolant hose is attached, the smell is like burn sugar so it's coolant. He probably broke something when disconnecting the hoses. Can't wait to have it re-checked by my own Toyspec tomorrow, this shit has been an unnecessary nightmare.
