Trick for replacing strut rubber bushing
I recently did both of my front struts on a 1990 Camry and the rubber bushings at the bottom were all worn through and deteriorated to the point that I could not see re-using them. I at first thought of maybe going to where they put tires on big trucks and see if they had any refuse inner tubes I could cut some pieces out of, but then a much simpler and better idea hit me. I went to AutoZone and bought me a few feet of 1/2" heater hose. I took a length long enough to make the first complete circle at the bottom of the spring, cut into it along the top side running longways the whole length, then pushed it onto the spring to where the spring entered the slice I had made in it. What I ended up with (sorry for not taking pictures) was a piece of rubber lots thicker than the original bushing that completely covers the bottom of the spring with the exception of the slit at the top of the hose. This ought to last as long as the steel spring does. I hope this helps someone else out there - we all have to share our brainstorming - right?
God Bless.
