3rd Generation How many MPG and Gas?

Hi guys, I was just wondering how many MPG you guys get with or without PWR on streets and/or highway and what kind of Camry you have. I have a 95 5S–FE, and get on average 22.7 mpg on highway and 18.x mpg on the streets, I always drive with PWR. Ah, and what kind of gas you use? Does driving with PWR make any difference, can it damage the engine? Later

I have a 1-mzfe and I get better mileage than you both city (19) and highway (27) and I use the lowest octane gas available in the gas station.
IMO, ect power does not affect your mileage...its mostly how you control your gas pedal

In your case you may either need a tune up or you might need to lighten your lead foot

during the summer i average 30mpg mixed (mainly highway) driving with my 96 5sfe. but i have gotten up to 37.1 on a highway trip! recently due to the cold weather, i average 25-26 mpg mixed. i never use the power button - i dont feel much (if any) of a difference going by the seat-of-my-pants dyno.

92 V6 (430,000 km - 267,000 miles)
Highway 30.1(best) - 26.7 mpg
Mixed mode about 23 mpg
City 19 – 17.4 (heavy traffic) mpg
I’m applying PWD when going up to mountains (make a difference at 5800 feet and above), or accelerate uphill.
I’m using gasoline 89 or 91. Also I’ve noted that mpg mostly depend on gasoline quality not on octane rate.

On my 93 4-cyl automatic, I get 24 - 25 mpg with mixed city/hwy driving. 165K on the car.
This is with the PWR turned off. I only use regular gas (89 oct).

My 94 V6 Camry averages about 26-28 MPG mixed driving. I dont keep up with it as to highway and city since most all of my driving is mixed. As for using the PWR button you will most likely notice a decrease in MPG if you leave it on. When you turn it on the shift points are moved higher so therefore the engine runs at a slightly higher RPM before shifting. As you know the more RPM's the more gas consumption. I went for about three tanks of gas using the PWR button jsut to see if there was a difference and if I rememebr right it lowered my MPG by about 2-3.

94 4-banger. Mixed 28 mpg. The power button raises the shift points of the car so you accelerate a little faster. It's in the owner's manual. You will probably here this from everyone, Tune-up, even change the little o-ring around the gas cap. (Go to the sticky on the front of the forum for the manual) and ease up on the gas. Keep the power button off and the O/D button on.

3rd Generation

I'm thinking of definitely turning off the power button forever, and going just with oct 87 instead 89 which I have always used. Good idea or no? And also taking it easy with my acceleration. I've always used Hess; does Hess provide a good quality gas? At what other companies should I look at for gas?

27 MPG mixed with 5S-FE engine. Always used Chevron 87 octane regular. I get over 30 MPG on highway. It's not bad, but I still wish it could be better.

I don't know about MPG but on a full tank I average about 350 miles in 94 4 cylinder with 87 octane.

87 octane is jsut fine. If that is what Toyota calls for then if you use anything higher you are wasting money. There was a good article that someone had copied and pasted onto one of the forums here that explained all gas comes from the same place it is jsut the chemicals they add to them that make them different.

I use whatever I can find the cheapest at the time. Most of the time that is eiether Kroger or Costco. ALthouugh Home Depot jsut put in gas pumps and they they are always cheaper by like ten cents. I jsut dont live next to them and hardly ever go around that particular store.

i dont think it makes you accelerate faster. it still moves up in the RPM's at the same rate as it usually does. the PWR button electronically tells the car to shift gears at a later point ie:shift into 2nd at 5800rpm rather than 5400 when flooring it.

That is sorta what it does. IT will cause the shift points to be higher under normal driving conditions. As for hard acceleration it doesnt really do anything because the trans automatically does that. under hard aceleration it is pretty much in the power mode anyway. That is the same as any other automaitc transmission.
