4th Generation so im working on custom taillights....

i had an extra right side outer taillight so i decided to open it up. i sanded down the Len's where the driving/brake light goes and i want to put individual led bulbs. now my question is what kind should i put and how will i hold them down?? i cant find my camera so i cant take pics now but when i find it ill take pics of what I'm talking about.

this is only a project and if i like the way it comes out ill buy new tails and do it to them including the inner tails

thanks!!

superflux man, superflux. I've thought of doing this many times but you need to make sure you're wiring is trustworthy cause the last thing you want are your tailights going out when you need them.

Buy some pcb board and determine your LED layout. Use some silcone to secure the pcb board to the housing. As long as you're doing the outer, do the inner as well. I would look around for other forums such as hidplanet, they will be able to help you out more than tn'ers. good luck

Dude, it looks great with just sanding them down. Much more clearer. Definately show us the finished project!

why use those? you don't need a chrome holder and they're expensive at $1.00 a piece. If you're going to do custom tails i would recommend using quality LEDs from a reputable manufacturer. After all, if/when they fail, you won't know until someone rear ends you.

Try mouser.com for a wide selection. Look for 4 pin LEDS aka superflux. Other good spots are lumileds.com and luxeon.

Hey man, how long did it take you to sand it down like that. What type of sand paper did you use and what number? Approximately how long with each piece of sand paper. How come you didn't sand the other part of the reflector? Thanks.

^ i started with 50grit sand paper until everything was gone. after that u used 80grit for about 5 mins then 5mins with 180 grit sandpaper. then wet sanded with 180 grit > wet sanded with 1000grit > wet sanded with 1500. then rubbed compound by hand to make it clear.

it shouldn't take you longer then 1 hr to get them perfect.

i didnt sand the reflector because...well idk. i just painted it black and i'm going to add more black accent to the tails....

it may take a while to finish because i got alot to read about l.e.d and i don't got to much time right now. there's so much involved in making l.e.d tails. i might do this also....
