Hey all, I'm over here in Misawa, Japan and I've noticed the gen 3 Toyota Camry's over here are slightly different from ours. The only thing I've noticed so far is the headlights, taillights, and the front bumper, but I haven't gotten a good look at one yet. Also, several of them say 2.0 on the rear, which leads me to believe that they have different engines in them from ours. If so, what engine do the Japanese get? Also, is the model Camry that we know in the states known as the Scepter over here (i.e. with the same headlights and taillights that we all know and love)? I have yet to see a Scepter, so I'm not sure about it. Well, any info you can give me about the JDM Camrys would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for the help.
P.S. For anyone that cares, I also noticed what would be the Celica Coupe in the states (the gen with 4 headlights, whichever one that is), is a different car known as the Toyota Curren over here, and it had a different front end that I think looks very cool. Check it out if you get a chance.

WhiteRabbit, if what UfoZ says is true, it will be hard enough for me to find a Scepter panel for myself, let alone anyone else... but I will keep an eye out! Hehe.
RichieRichJP, that was a question, not a statement, but am I correct to assume by your answer that I was right in my guess about the Scepter?
V6LE_CAMRY, I will take pictures of both the Camry and the Curren and post them when I can, but I don't know exactly when that will be, as I don't have my own computer here yet, and the place that I work doesn't allow cameras. Maybe I can find a public computer with connection to the internet that I can use... I'll see what I can find.
Also, does anyone know about the powerplant? I am curious about the 2.0L engine that powers the JDM Camry's, if indeed that is what it is. Thanks again.

The cars that call camry in Japan is not the same Camry in the U.S. Those camrys are smaller, about alittle bigger then a corolla. Yes, the scepters are rare. In Japan I saw a bunch of Scepter wagons and 1 Scepter coupe. I was like woooowwwww. From what I was told, Scepters didnt sell good there because people prefer to buy small cars like the corolla, or big cars like the Celsior, (Lexus LS-430 here). There are apparently tax disadvantages to buying the Scepter because it is middle sized. The poor buy corollas and the rich buy Celsior.
I finally got pics of the Curren, along with pics of the first Scepter I've seen in Japan! I saw a Scepter wagon, but I didn't have my camera with me at the time, but the ES300 wagon was interesting.
Yes, I think that is the previous generation Celica. When I was in Japan, I asked why the front end is different from ones in American. My g/f's dad said that they made both fronts but people didn't like the kind with 4 round headlights so toyota changed it.
Did you notice that you see a crap load of Scepter wagons but not coupes or sedans? The Japanese are wagon crazy.
LOL,
I see you are picking up the crazy ass use of english or engrish there.
