I looked at my cabin air filter for the first time since I bought the car, about 2 weeks ago. It looks gross, black, leaves, bugs, and crap. Gotta get it changed.
I think the dealers are going to rob me, $50 bucks for a new filter. Any suggests where I can get one cheaper, besides ebay.

17 bucks??? wow... great deal. I guess I have to look at eBay.
I just had the same experience ("new" 2005 LE): it looks to me like the pleated filter element is replaceable within the plastic frame: it just has to be popped out. I vacuumed mine and that was it for the moment. Given that it is not the engine air filter I am considering carefully washing and drying it and seeing how that works out [I'm Scottish].
I got my filter at Checkers. $16 + tax. My old one was really gross.. I have allergies and do 100% city driving so I'm going to be changing it every 6 months or so. If after just 1 year it looks black with crud in it, then it'll be 6 months or less for me. Sometimes I wonder why car makers bother with this because I doubt very many owners have it changed - probably only car people like here on TN or people who go to the dealer actually get it changed. It does more harm than good when it's black and full of crud.
