Gen5 For member Hawkeye-SE especially

For any and all who have done a hid retrofit on the Gen 5 Camry, where did you mount the ballasts? Is there room underneath the headlight? Thanks.

Sorry Hawkeye-SE. Didn't mean to call you out like that but you didn't answer my PM a few weeks back and you don't respond to my post. I know that you've done a retrofit.

You placed it behind the headlight housing on the passenger? Did you take any other measures to waterproof?

Holy shit, I do have a PM. Sorry man.

I mounted the passenger side ballast on the flat surface next to the windshield wiper fluid filler neck.

I mounted the drivers side ballast to the battery.

The denso ballasts that I used had short cables from the ballast to the connector, and it was a tight squeeze to mount it to the bottom of the headlight and still have it reach.

(its a little ghetto, but it works)

Thanks. lol. I'm using Denso ballasts from a Lexus RX330. They probably are the same that you used. I got them from ebay for $162 w/ bulbs. I'll try the headlight first but probably end up trying Hawkeyes technique.

Also, what did you guys use to seal the headlights?

I reheated the original sealant and pushed the two halves together. Worked fine.

Hey guys, I'm back with more questions. Have anyone of you had any issues with the 9006 low beam wiring harness? I purchased one from a member on hidplanet.com and he said that it should definitely work. Unfortunately, it hasn't worked for me. I even sent it back to the member and he said that he still sees nothing wrong with it. I think that I have been plugging up everything correctly but the ballasts would not fire. Any suggestions or info about the Camry's wiring that I should know about?

thapranksta-

Could you take pictures of the harness, or describe each wire and where it comes from and where it goes? (Please include, relay pin numbers).

I'm not sure but I don't think it is the fuse because all my lights are still working on my car and the bridge of the fuse on the wiring harness is still intact.

Rundown of steps taken:
Ballasts crimped to the wiring harness (black leads to black and yellow to
red, yellow is the color of my harness wire)
Car turned on
Headlights turned on (lowbeams)
9006 base from harness in factory 9006 plug
Ignitors attached to D2S bulbs
Fuse pushed completely down and relay pushed completely down
Red Wire with Round Connector to + battery terminal
Black wire with Round Connector to - (ground) battery terminal

Am I forgetting something that could be really simple? By the way, here is a basic pic of the harness. Looks just like this one from hidplanet.com.

BTW, the harness has a 5-pin socket for the relay.

i'd check fuses and see if you wired it wrong. Positive on negative and stuff. or relay maybe.

I tried changing the relay and no luck. I can check the fuses too to be absolutely sure that they are not a factor. Thanks for looking.

That pic doesn't show me much. If it is a problem in wiring, then the loom is covering up the answer.

I am really not sure what the problem is.

Does the relay click? Are you positive that you have the right wires on the ballasts?

That is a big problem. It means that the wired to the relay are not hooked up properly. I would love to see a detailed picture of what terminals each wire run into.

A relay is a switch that is triggered with an electromagnet, if it doesn't click... then it isn't switching.
