knocking in my engine

i can hear knocking in my engine whenever i try to accelerate around 2200 rpm. its a constant knocking and whenever i let the car coast, the knocking stops. whenever acceleration is applied, the knocking is back. The funny thing is, whenever i step the pedal to the floor, there is no knocking. hmmm how do you solve this problem? is there something wrong with the fuel system? where should i check??? any ideas or solutions???

Question Need More Details

Give us some more details about the car, vintage, its history, engine type....

Off hand it sounds like it could be a timing/poor fuel quality detonation knock. But we have nothing to go on. If its >91, maybe the knock sensor puuuked?

Need mor info and tell us exacty what you hear.

Perhaps we need a folder for sounds..... you know its bad when (put sound hear).

Regards,

ra

Unhappy info more

1994 v6 toyota camry, 1mz-fe, automatic, OK, here is the thing. The noise sounds like someone is knocking on the wooden table at a constant rythym. The knocking noise becomes louder when i press a little harder on the pedal. The sound is ONLY created when the acclerator is added between the 3rd and the 4rth gear. the vibration of the noise can be felt through the accelerator pedal. I thought it was the cv boot, or the rotor, but it has nothing to do with this problem.
Can it be the EGR valve? distributor? timing? Should i do the self diagnostic test by sticking a paper clip??? I added the fuel injector cleaner fluid, the complete fuel kit cleaner thing that i bought it at pep boys and added it into my gas tank.

What is the oil pressure? (with a mechanical gauge). You have checked oil level right?
Other than that we are just guessing because we can't hear what you are hearing.

i had the same problem with my camry , my mechanic checked it and said it was the oil pump, reason it didnt have a lot of pressure on it so no oil was getting to the top,so i bought the pump that wasnt it,i spent $150 for the pump and $160 for the labor , 4 days later , the motor gave up , turned out to be the main bearings were going wild , lots of play. went and bought a new motor for $1000 with 71k BRAND NEW CAR

^^Actually the mechanic was probably right! A bad oil pump will take the bearings out. It probably just wasn't caught in time.
