O/D off, change shift points?

When O/D is off, it the car does not go to 4th gear (or drive). My question is... does this change the shift points for 1st, and 2nd gear???

For example, I'm stopped at a light. Turn off O/D. Step on the gas. Does 1st gear rev higher before it changes to second, and so on. My guess it would change the shift points, but would like to hear your feedback.

Has anyone experimented with this?

NO it will not change the shift points the nly thing that will do that is if you depress the PWR button, if the Gen5 even has them anymore.

why did they remove the sport mode in camry

From what I understand the pre-Gen5 Camry's had a econo/sport mode button in the automatics. I think this was a great idea. Some days i want to drive in sport mode (higher revs) and vice versa. Why did the remove such a simple yet good idea. Now the automatic tranny learns your driving style, but my driving style varies, it depends on my mood. Some days I want to drive like an old granny, some days I want to weave in and out of traffic.

Toyota is not the only one doing this of course, most automatic now have that adaptive transmission, where it learns your driving habits. Not such a good idea IMO.

one of the reasons my my mom's gen5 w/ the vvti 1mz isn't actually as fast as my car even though it should be, if not a bit faster, is that since my mom doesn't drive aggressively, when I floor it, the tranny literally takes a second to drop the 2 or 3 gears that it needs to get in the powerband and take off

and besides for the bit of extra economy from having a 5spd auto tranny, with an engine with as wide of a powerband at 3.5-4K all the way to redline, I don't see the need for 5spds, as all it does is take away performance by how it always just keeps shifting up
