3rd Generation Air Intake Filter

Like last year I bought an Air intake system, I was wondering how often the filter needs to be cleaned and how to clean them. A friend told me to clean it every 15,000 miles with water and soap if I didn't have a cleaning kit, should I use dishwasher soap?

Also I've seen those 50mm AIR BREATHER FILTER, what is that for? What good would it be if I put one of those in my Camry?

THANKS

should just clean it once a year... more often if you drive in dusty or sandy conditions.

You might just be able to get away with using soap and water... but if you get the cleaning kit, it is reusable anyways.

most important-- reoil according to their directions.

You only wash it if it is washable.
K&N is made from cotton and washable but you must reoil it after washing.
Some cheap paper filter is not washable and doesn't use oil to trap dirt like K&N.
In this case, use the air to blow it from the inside.

Most breather filter are for PCV or fuel system.
It prevent dirt entering crankcase ventilation system.
You don't really "need" it.

Yeah,

You can't wash regular air filters at all, just blow off the dirt. Now K&N you can wash with water and reuse, just reoil it. That what I got.

just cut a hole in you hood and stick the air filter on th top so u can get true ram air
and o yea the rain will help u wash it hahahahhhaa
jk jk

yea k&n would be the best choice because they last a really long time and u get to wash them
but the ebay ones are fairly cheap and u can just replace them every year or so.....

You just wash it by flusing water thru it. There is a special oil that K&N makes that you use to reoil it. Because when you wash it, you wash away the oil too.

d9ont wash K&N filters ifyou want to honor the unlimited mile warranty on them.

washing destorys te fine gotton threads that is used for filtering large dirt particles out.

they also work best when dirty as the larger dirt particles (trapped on cotton) will stop slightly smaller particles from passing. the oil suspense microbits of dust from the cotton trapped them.

just give it a knock to clear out any big bits and a quick spray of oil from the inside.

As per the instructions from the K&N oil kit. It says to flush with water, let dry and reoil.
