4th Generation bad gas mileage

Ever since i put on my new tires i've been getting bad gas mileage. They are smaller so they sould put more miles on my odometer and better gas mileage, but i don't know. I saw a thread on this before and didn't think anything of it. Now i can't find it (i've searched too). Could someone piont me in the direction to help fix it? Thanks.

I dont think its simple. As a general rule, a narrower tire would probably get better gas mileage. First of all, what brand of tires did you buy.

Keep in mind, the tire tread makes a difference in your gas mileage. Some treads have a continuous strip of rubber running along the center of the tire, so its less noisy and better rolling. Some tires are designed for a lot of traction with lot of knobby treads and lot of tiny cuts in the tread itself. This type of tires give great traction in snow, but is terrible for gas mileage.

Any way, tire tread makes a huge difference. Compare a snow tire and summer tire, a snow tire will definitely give you poorer gas mileage, as a general rule.

If it helps. The tires I have now are Khumo Ecsta SPT 205/50/ZR16 on 16"(dua) Konig Monsoons. They have to be dry tires because they nave NO traction in water, kinda fun though. And yes, they do have a continuis tred in the center on the tire.

And I'd be curious as to what we're calling "bad" gas mileage?!?

I haven't measured it out but it's less mileage than before.

Well if you are 100% sure it due to your new tires, then whatever tires you had on before were more fuel efficient tires due to tread design, sidewall flex, softness of the tire, max pressure, etc, etc, etc. Some tires absorb more energy than other tires, therefore giving you less fuel efficiency.

There's a lot of science that goes into designing a tire.

gas mileage varies if the weather changes and also if you get a heavy foot if it varies by 5 or more then you may be right but i think it is just flucuations
