This is my first post. My friend has a 1994 camry V6. Tonight, the radiator blew and the driver proceeded to complete the trip home. Engine Oil Temp. guage was peaked for atleast 15 minutes. Just prior to him shutting the motor off, I noticed an audible sound coming from the valvetrain. Approximately how much damage could have been done?
Not good! You will almost have to get coolant in it and fire it up to see what it does. Could be just about anything(head gasket, warped head, cam bearings, etc.

our 85 civic took a dump when my dad decided to pull the same stunt. I'd definately check the oil pan first. If the camry doesnt have a prefilter thing (you can probably see any damage looking into the oil cap area).
yeah. I felt pretty bad. I told him repeatedly that there was a serious risk of seizing his engine. It seemed he disreguarded my comments to the fullest potential. oh well.
first step is to get a new radiator. then see what happens.

I'd refill the coolant (plain water should work for a short run test) and check the engine before spending money on parts. I wouldn't spend any money until you know what's broken and have decided what your next steps are going to be.
yeah it makes sense to pull over when the temp gage is pegged and the engine is pinging and grinding and what not. Just goes to show you that it payees to know about the workings of an automobile and how to properly care for one in certain situations.
