Power Steering Fluid
Hey all, this is my first post.
Let me first introduce myself, I'm an Engineering Student from the University of Waterloo. My family's been a loyal customer of Toyota's for years. Every car we've owned was a Toyota. We just recently picked up a 2000 Camry CE fully loaded except for ABS at 140K KM. We also have a 99 Corolla LE (can't stand that small car, I'm 6'1") and the most reliable 87 Camry LE ever!
Anyways to my question. We went and picked up the Camry from the previous owner and I spent some time cleaning the interior and inspecting it for minor problems. What I noticed was that the power steering fluid seemed more like Engine Oil than Tranny oil. On my 87 Camry, we'd always used Castrol Dextron Transmission oil. The fluid in this Camry had a yellowish color exactly like Engine oil. I was wondering if I could just leave it be or if I had to flush it out and put in some Tranny oil. I have yet to do anything because when we bought our Corolla (used) from the dealership, the powersteering fluid was also engine oil and not tranny oil.
Does the fluid make a significant difference in performance or worse, does using the wrong fluid damage the power steering pump?
Thanks in Advance.
