Steering problems

I have a '95 Camry 4cyl 5-spd with approximately 190,000 miles. I bought it used, in extermely good well maintained condition about two years ago. My knowledge of the vehicle history is relatively limited. Begining a couple of months ago, I would notice the steering momentarily getting difficult (sort of a pulse) in the process of making a turn, then it would be fine. Since then it has gotten progressively worse. It has become difficult to steer most of the time now. I checked the power steering fluid level, and it's fine. There has been no out of the ordinary noises coming from the area of the power steering pump. The belt seems fine, as all belts were replaced about 15,000 miles (1 year) ago when I had my timing belt replaced. Anyone have any idea what the cause of the problem could be? Any help or suggestions would be very much appreciated. Thanks

My 91 was doing the same thing. Lubricate the universal joint in the steering column shaft where it exits the firewall. I tried it as kind of a last chance shot at not changing the rack unit and it fixed the problem!!!

only thing that comes to mind if theres enough PS fliud and no squeeling is one, the seals are giving on the pump, two, theres a leak in the hoses maybe from dry-rotting, three, theres air in the system which is a likely option, or four your car hates you and is possessed by an evil demon (though this option is not as likely)

Thanks very much for the suggestions. The obvious easy (and cheapest) thing to do was WD 40 the u-joint. Seemed to do the trick. Thanks everyone for the help!!
