2nd Generation Add a Cabin Air Filter?

Hi All,

Can a cabin air filter be added to a Gen2 Camry?

Post #3 in the following thread suggests that this addition is possible.
http://www.toyotanation.com/forum/t64133.html

If yes, what brand / part # is recommended?

Thanks,

Question Per the local Lexus dealer:

I checked with the local Lexus dealer and they said the ES250 did not have a cabin air filter.

Can anyone shed some light on this question?

Thanks!

So what was Toysrme talking about?

Quote:
Every gen2 and gen3 Camry/windom/vista/es has the PLACE for a cabin filter (only installed in the lexi models, normally at customer request). Since every year ES so far has the place for an in-cabin air filter, they didn't just take the spot for it out in the Camry's.
Thanks!

On the Gen 5, the filter is behind the glove box somewhere. I suppose if you wanted to add one, you could get some home air conditioner filter from the hardware store, cut it up, and shove it in the air duct and change it out once in a while.

Per Popular Mechanics:

Breathe Deep

Wix Filters is on a crusade to educate drivers about cabin air filters.

Ultimately, there are two issues to consider. First: Driving a vehicle that doesn't have a cabin air filter leaves you susceptible to the ever-increasing amount of air pollution. We don't know of any retrofit kits available in the aftermarket for older cars. However, if your late-model vehicle had a cabin air filter option when you bought it, the housing necessary to accept the filter is probably already on the vehicle. So take a look.

So does the Gen2 have the housing necessary to accept the filter?

Gen4 Camry = 1997 - 2001.

Lexus ES:
250 / Gen1 = 1989 - 1991, 2.5L
300 / Gen2 = 1992 - 1996, 3.0L
300 / Gen3 = 1997 - 2001, 3.0L
300 / Gen4 = 2002 - 2002, 3.0L
330 / Gen4 = 2003 - 2006, 3.3L
350 / Gen5 = 2007 - 3.5L

Hope this helps,
