2nd Generation 3S Transmission

What manual transmission should I use for use with the 3SFE, if later on I am going to upgrade to a 3SGTE. In other words, what manual transmission would be used for the 3SFE and 3SGTE. Like maybe a E153 or something? Does that one bolt up to the 3SFE? Another thing, a 6 Speed tranny that would fit on both would be great. If I am gonna spend money on it, I am gonna spend it right. I plan on swapping for a 3SGTE, but I just want to do it a step at a time. First with the gearbox (if thats possible). A lot of info would be great, since I am a toyo n00b.

Personally I'd do the whole swap (engine and tranny) at the same time.

Unless you like wasting time and doing more work in the end. Which is what'll happen if you do the tranny swap now and the engine swap later.

E153 will bolt up to a 3S-FE and 3S-GTE. 3S-GTE in a MR2 Turbo comes with a E153.

Use this, its good for you. ----> http://toyotanation.com/forum/search.php

Yeah, I would do the whole swap at one time too, but I dont have an actual place to do it. with the transmission I can take it to a friends house and we can slap it in there in 48 hours or less. I did the auto I have in it solo at my apartment garage . It took me a couple days, since I dont have a tranny jack and it was my first FWD tranny install . Getting the engine to work in there would be a bit harder than finding out the transmission I am sure. Mostly I was looking for an answer to a 6 speed for the 3S-GTE. This is the way I see it, spend money to do it the right way and be happy or be cheap about it and definitely not be happy cause either it falls apart or you dont want it the way you intended. SO anybody heard of a 6 speed tranny. Oh BTW, the search omits the number 6, since it is too common. And personally I dont care how long it will take for the install, I just like working on cars, thats a hobby right?

The only 6 speed that MAY work is the C-60(?) from the Corolla, 4AGE. You'd need to do a bit of mucking around to get it to fit thought, as the bellhousing pattern is different.

hmm cool thanks. I'll have to do some off site research on the subject. I recall seeing the new Celica GT-S with a 6 speed. Looks like back to searching.

Definitely. Getting the motor in and bolting it up is not a problem.

Its the wiring and all the other stuff, you gotta worry about.

Hope your good with wiring and reading schematics. Otherwise good luck doing the wiring yourself.

I don't know of any 6 speeds trannies that'll mate with a 3S-GTE. E153 is a 5 speed.

be sure that you get everything that touches or works the tranny if you get a e153, and get it all from the same car, and get the axles and hubs too, now the support bracket for the passenger side stub axle is another story as the v6 bracket wont bolt to the 4 cyl. block and the 4 cyl. bracket is too small for the v6 axle
