Okay, this may possibly be a very stupid question, but it made sense to me while I was wasting away during the endless briefings you get in the military.
I understand that you have to make custom motor mounts (one of many things you need to custom make) in order to do a 3SGTE swap into a Camry. I hear that UfoZ is doing this swap, so maybe he can help me out. My question is, if the 3S is the block, and the G(T)E or FE or whatever is the head... wouldn't the engine mounts for a 3SFE be the same for the
3SG(T)E if the vehicle was the same, since they both, to my limited understanding, have the same 3S block? If so, and the Japanese Gen 3 model Camry (dunno about the Scepter) comes with a 3SFE, could we use the engine mounts from the JDM cars to swap in a 3SGTE? Assuming of course, that I'm right in my assumtion (this is the iffy part) and that they bolt up the same way? Unless there would be clearance issues or something... but this is why I'm asking you! It seems to make sense in my head, but maybe you can think of or know of something I don't.
Just daydreaming... Wraith and UfoZ are my car idols... and I think Tony the Tiger did it as well. Amazing.

To do the 5sgte hybrid you need the 5sfe block [cast iron] and the 3sgte head. You will still need to do all the fitting and electrical problems. Honestly unless you have another ride to use and a steady income, dont do the swap.
thebluecamry: I'm actually talking about going full 3SGTE swap, rather than a hybrid. I remember reading that the 5SGTE was a little iffy anyway... Maybe I'm wrong. Also, as I'm in Japan right now for the next three years, my car at home is sitting, so having a car isn't a big deal, and I do have a steady income.
Will the 3SFE mounts from the Japanese Gen 3 Camry's work, if they bolt up to the frame the same as ours? If that is the case, if older Camry's also came with the 3SFE engine, wouldn't it be possible to swap a 3SGTE using the same mounts? I dunno... any help?

the mounts are NOT the same between 2nd Gen and 3rd Gen... The 2nd Gen Camry is very similiar to a Celica ... While the 3rd Gen isnt even close. The 5S-FE mounts would work but requires you to mix and matched mounts... The only reason why UFOz swap is working is because I'm doing an advisory position with the shop thats doing and I'm also supplying UFOz with my actual motor mount kit...
Are you selling your mount kit somewhere yet? If so, I may be interested here soon... Also, do you know if UfoZ is documenting problems he is coming across, or is there a write up somewhere already? Obviously, I'm going to do tons of reading up on whatever I can find before jumping in. I'm no master sleeper builder... LoL. Thank you for your quick response.

No he is not documenting... Because when the shop hits a snag on the swap they contact me and I come down and resolve the issues that arises... Hey you know what I think I should get paid for this .... ALLEN!!!! where are you fool ... Wheres my money !!! lol
But as for the motor mounts. I own the jigs and have no plans on selling the motor mount for the swap ... I'm selling them to UFoz because his is a close friend and I've helped on his project from day one. And I could trust him on not making a bunch of copies of them... And would like to see him out there, on the track kicking ass...
And UfoZ appreciates all of Justin's help so far...
Im not really documenting my whole swap other than just taking pictures along the way... If someone else is doing it down the road though, id be happy to offer whatever advice I can give.
Forgive me, although when I said, "Wraith and UfoZ are my car idols... and I think Tony the Tiger did it as well. Amazing." I wasn't necisarilly talking about a 3SGTE swap, as Wraith's is 5SGTE anyway. (I think...) I merely meant, 'did a lot of hard and/or custom work to get the awesome setup they currently have.' I'm so impressed by what you have done to a car that people say shouldn't be even modded. The amount of work required to get to where all of you are is amazing. I hope to be up there some day... Hopefully being in Japan, and getting paid a steady income, I can modify my car from afar, so that when I get back, it'll be a completely different monster! That's my hope, anyway.

So it would be possible to mix and match mounts to get a 3sgte in my 97 5sfe camry with random toyota mounts? I was always under the impression they would all need to be custom made... Is there any way you would ever sell a set of your magical mounts to help me be the first 3sgte 4th gen ? I am almost done with my weak 5sfte but I have no illusions, I expect to destroy it at some point, I would love to drop a 3s in there...
I'd also be interested in this information. Also, I assume that because you didn't mention them, that the 3SFE mounts from a JDM Camry with a 3SFE wouldn't work? So, what mounts from what cars would you have to get? I'm not going as far as to think you have part numbers... but if you did, that'd be awesome!

I already got screwed by someone who I trusted and I did it as a favor without a deposit. And I ended up forking over the cash to pay for the set that was suppose to go to him, in the end ... But, if your willing to fork over the cash up front then I'll make them but other than that I wont...
As for mixing an matching mounts... You'll need a 3rd Gen front mount, you'll need to convert over to V6 Camry or Solara tranny and everything that ties into that, V6 Camry or Solara tranny mount, You'll need to have a 3rd Gen side mount, V6 Camry or Solara rear mount, and you'll need a custom rear mount and axle carrier that bolts on to the block... This should make the 3s-gte engine sit perfect.
Wow, pretty crazy stuff. I'm sorry to hear about your bad experience. Stuff like that makes me mad... as similar situation happens over here every once in awhile. Like the few Americans over here that act stupid and give the rest of us a bad name.
I may very well consider forking out that kind of money up front to get a good quality set of mounts like that, because I know you are well trusted and respected in the community... I won't say I have it right now, but a few checks from now... Well, I'll let you know.
