Making your own quick shifter?

Has anyone tried this: http://www.toyotanation.com/forum/t105294.html

It seems like a good way to get a quick shifter, but I've only seen a couple passing references to it. This is the first detailed description I've been able to find.

nope...but it looks like a perfectly good way to get the throw to be whatever you want it to be....hell, you could even use a heavier ball

it's worlds better than people who just cut their shaft to have a shorter throw, but without changing the pivot point

It looks so effin simple, you wonder why more people aren't doing it. Heck, it looks easier than cutting and rethreading the shift rod to get a faux short shifter.
