Burned / Scorched Roof Interior

Hi all,

We're new to your forum. Thanks for the help.

This is a really strange situation. My inlaws who own the Camry, have now had this problem with two different cars. What happens is that the interior liner on the roof ends up with a burn that looks for all the world like someone splattered some acid or something on it. It is "splotchy" and is really strange.

The first car that they had this problem in was a Dodge Intrepid and it happened twice in that car. Now it has happened with the Camry. My theory is that something inside the car is reflecting the sun up and causing the burn, but they swear it happened once while they were driving. They really don't have any chemicals or whatever, so it is a real mystery.

Anyone ever have something similar and know what the cause was?

Thanks,

Bill

Do they smoke cigarettes?
Use spray window cleaner, or car fragrances?

Window Cleaner?

No smoking, no fragerances. But they are very "clean" people. I couldn't tell you about window cleaner? Has that been a problem?

Window cleaner isn't going to Burn anything. I don't have an answer due to the vague description. What do you mean when you say: " interior liner on the roof ends up with a burn ". Is it charred or does it have holes, or is it just discolored... ???

" that looks for all the world like someone splattered some acid or something on it "

From this statement i would say that the liner is stained and not burned. Possibly from a spewing Cola or drink. I do not think it is a problem with the car headliner material etc...

I vote for a stain...

our volvo had small splotches of stuff....i think it was soda...and there were areas around the sunroof on that car that were leaking which also stained the roof. But the stain from the water wasnt a burnt look..however the soda was.
