K&N filter okay for Camry's

A buddy of mine read that it's not a good idea to install K&N filters for his Passat because over time the oil in the filter gradually comes off and starts to cover the mass air flow sensor. Is this true for Camry's as well. Has anyone read anything about this?

My car is a 94 and I've had the same K&N filter in even now. Only reoiled twice. Nothing wrong with my car if that tells you anything.
