Need wheels and tires for my wifes Camry

What's up guys! Been lurking around your forum for a while and now need a little help if I may. My wife wants some new "shiny" wheels for her Salsa Red Pearl 2005 Camry. I've looked around all of the pesonal websites you guys have, checked out the sticky and have seen some pretty nice setups! My problem is there are SO many wheel and tire manufacturers out there that I have NO idea what is quality and what is not

I don't think I want to go over 17" since I'd like to keep as much ride quality as possible as we do travel in this car. The type of wheel she prefers is an "open" 5 spoke design (small spokes) and I prefer polished but I'm sure she'll expect me to keep them up so I better go chrome. For tires, nothing too aggressove is needed and ride comfort/quiteness as well as tread life are most important.

Any and all suggestions would be most appreciated! Also, tips on what to stay away from and pics of good stuff would be great!

Thanks in advance! Marv

Go to www.tirerack.com

You can see different wheels in different sizes on an image of the car. It's a good starting point.

Welcome first of all...

Well, where are you planning on buying the rims and tires? If you're near some shops, I suggest finding out what they carry, or what they can get. It's typically cheaper than ordering say from tirerack.com. You should check out their site as you can pull up your car and test out the rims on there...like you can see some 5 spoke designs on there on your ride.

It also depends on your budget. I couldn't say stay away from the cheap brands as I've used them without any problems, but sometimes they have more trouble balancing than the higher end brands. For instance, a decent brand but not crazy expensive would be something like Enkei. Cheap ones are like BSA, Ikon, ALT, ADR (but very popular and large selection), and the list goes on and on.

For tires, it also depends on your budget. I personally like Toyo's, something like the TPTs might be good for her. You probably want a Performance All-Season tire, something that handles better than a regular all season, yet still maintains a decent tread life. I've heard good things about the cheaper Hankook Ventus HRII H405's.

My suggestion is to first search on some rims and tires that you want, and then post them on here. That's much easier to judge for the members here, than to rule out brands.

Here's a site to check out: http://www.1010tires.com/wheels.asp

Here's one from Enkei, RS5's.

Agreed

17" will be your best combination for looks and comfort. Above that, like what I have (18") there is a compromise of comfort and availability of tires. Picking wheels is a very individual choice, you might want to check out tirerack.com or discounttiredirect.com for wheel simulators to get ideas of what you like. I personally do NOT like chrome. You should be looking for a 17x7.5 with a 45 mm offset (5x114/5x114.3) or 17x8 with a 40mm offset (again 5x114/5x114.3). Tires, I am a fan of Yokohama Avid H4's (which I have on 4 cars). They are all season high performance with a great treadwear warranty. You might also look at Pirelli M&S. I would say a 225mm wide tire. Google search Miata Tire Calculator to input your original size tires and it will tell you what your sidewall height should be dependent on width and wheel size. Any more questions please ask. Jon. ps. I am a fan of the AT Italia Inox Stainless like these :

Check out the rims from one of the TN sponsors: http://www.6061forged.com
I emailed them once and they said that the 17" mesh rim weighs about 15.5lbs so my guess is that the others are about the same or slightly lighter.

They do not do chrome though because it adds weight.
They can, however, clearcoat a polished rim.
