Brake issues

Hi guys,
96 LE with 150 K .so I wanted to flush my brake system and I messed up
I started with RP took the wheel off .
I had bought a large syringe from Wallmart ,attached clear hose to it and stuck it to the bleeder and cracked the bleeder open and started pulling back on the syringe .

There were bubbles comeing out like and aquarium stone!! And this kept happening forever.then i noticed that the bleeder plug was loose i guess air was going in past the threads of the bleeder .
How much do you open the bleeder to get things moving????

I take out the drums and i noticed that it is leaking on the other side(wheel cylinder) as well.

<stupid> I presed the brake pedal and I heard a popping noise....... looks like I popped the piston out of the wheel cylinder .I move the adjusters all the wayy back in but I cannot get the drum inside!!!!!!!!!!

what did i miss??

also ,will some kind soul please tell me the size of the bolt that you use to get the drums off!!

TIA

P.S : the good part is I got the drum back and although its very tight (and runs like a dog),I got it all fixed up and it si srunning.

bleeding brakes can be a pain, but pshing on the brake pedal won't help unless someone/something is inside the car holding the pedal down. also the bleader only needs to be loosened about 1/4-1/2 a turn. ...sounds like if your wheel cyl's are leaking, you definately need to replace/rebuild them.
good luck!

I looked at it and looked at it and finally figured out my problem. The adjuster mechanism had slipped out of its slot (on the shoes) and was sitting in the wrong spot.pushed it back into the notch and everything seems dandy.

For the bolt that are used to remove the drums ----.The guys at autozone ripped open a new rear drum package went looking for the bolts and got me two >Like most people on this forum I also forgot the bolt size.

The wheel cylinder leaks on the inside only when the bleeder is loosened.

The bleeder nuts are also different between the front and the back,So Im thinking non-oem bleeder bolts are not so great.

Im gonna go to the dealers to see if I can get some new bleeders when I get some tx fluid.

Thanks,
Keba

2nd Generation

For the easiest way to bleed brakes, read my post in this thread and pick up the one-man brake bleeder mentioned at AutoZone.

God bless

Exclamation

Back before I was a lazy old man, I used to remove the bleeder screws and wrap some Teflon tape around the threads, then put them back in. Kept air from getting in when I was sucking fluid out.

Now, I just accept some bubbles. Lazy!
