So tonight I go to fill my car up with gas and I go to check my engine oil. Too my surpise the dipstick was completely dry w/ no signs of oil on it . So I put half a quart in (all that I have) and go to walmart to buy some more oil. Come back out and check it again (after like 45 minutes)and there is just barely any oil on it now. So add the new oil and I'll check it again tommorrow before I drive again. What would cause it to do that?? I keep up on the maintance and the engine bay is free of oil (expect what I dripped). So any ideas that you guys could give me would be helpfull.
Did you wait for the oil to drain back? I mean.. 45 minutes should be enough, but.. maybe not?
and if it's really going that fast, it should be puffing smoke like crazy.
^ yeah, I was about to ask how much he ended up putting in....if he did a full 4/5 liters and it was still dry, then something's really wrong...but if he only dif 1/2 to 1, then he could have just been really really low

I put a half of quart in at the gas station and then I add some more when I got out of walmart. (2 quarts).I'll check the coolant in the morning before work. The car doesn't smoke and like I said earlier the engine deosn't appear to have a leak but I'll double check again. It just bothers me cause I have a 1500 mile road trip back to college at the end of this month and I don't want my car to crap out on me in the middle of nowhere.
shoot. you better make sure to keep at least a case of motor oil on the road with u .. just in case.. a fill here and there if u dont get it fixed up yet.
I quickly checked the oil this morning and it was fine just dark and the coolant was fine. It just worried me yesterday that it was dry. I think it's time for an oil change. Thanks you guys.
