OEM spoiler installation experts needed

hey guys,
i need some help on installing a oem spoiler on my 92 camry. i already removed a carpet like trim that is on the trunk lid. but now there seems to be another metal piece that is in there. is there anyway i can remove it because i think if i drill it through it will be kind of hard to lock it down with some bolts... if some one can point me to the right directions and any information or pictures that they would like to share.. it would be a great help.. and also, can some one tell me how many coats of paint they used before they install the spoiler. thanks in advance guys

easiest way, give silverstreak a pm and/or tony the tiger.....they've both put their spoilers on themselves (that I know for sure)....

Update On Spoiler Install?

Hello - I'm new to this forum - have been on another Camry forum but haven't been real deep into my 93 - and couldn't find the right posts to help me.

93 Camry - bought an OEM spoiler locally via e-bay. Dealers haven't been helpful regarding hardware / install kits. I see you were apparently successful a couple years ago or so. What type of direction can you give me to make sure I don't mess up my car and that the LED's function etc.?

I appreciate any help you can give - as I didn't see a response on the posts back when you going to install yours.

wow...thread revival FTW!

but in all seriousness, thanks for using the search function

about your question though- after finally installing one myself...is that the job is very easy.

If you bought the spoiler, it should come with the screws that you will need to install the spoiler. Beyond that, anything else is really a bonus.

In regards to your led brake strip, it should already have a resistor installed, so all you have to do is splice into your middle brake light and that's it.

In regards to mounting the spoiler, the easiest way is to make a template using a piece of bristol board or cardboard for the placement of the mounting holes- then drill, use some paint or other anitseizing component for the holes, and then mount your spoiler using the screws.

It's also a good idea to use some foam between the trunk lid and the spoiler in case you have a sub, otherwise the spoiler will rattle against your trunk.

good luck

I assume the "resistor" you mention is integrated / internal in the spoiler - led assembly?

I have a "parts" car that I think I'll dig into electrically to find the third light wiring and do a pilot run on splicing into that one and if it works electrcially then I'll work towards the template method you suggest and go for install on the main car.

The mechanical aspect didn't scare me too bad - there are studs with some threads (I'll have to get nuts & washers) and I think also some type of mounting / locator pins as I recall.

I don't have a sub and don't plan on anything elaborate regarding sound so that caution isn't a concern - but I anticipate some type of rubber gasket material to isolate or seal the spoiler on the lid and some silicone around the the holes to further protect against water leaks.

Thanks for the feedback on an old thread - as well as any additional suggestions from the members.

i recently put on an OEM spoiler, i layed it perfectly where i wanted it got a couple friends to lift it up and i marked my points. Then i drilled the holes. The holes will go through the metal inside the trunk as well. But i had to drill the holes inside the trunk bigger so the screw could fit. Also, the stock screws didnt work for me so i used bigger ones and it holds well. Make sure you have a friend help you, doing it by youself wont work. Ill take some pictures tomorrow if you want.

Gen 3 OEM Spoiler

Pictures would be great - you can either post here or I can advise you of my e-mail.

I haven't taken any measurements from a car in a parking lot yet - but I anticipate keeping the back spoiler edge consistent with the back trunk edge.

Did you have any issues with the LED brake light connections / function?
