Gen5 Steering Wheel Audio Controls Lighting

does anyone know if the lighting for the gen 5.5 4 spoke steering wheel audio controls are LED based or incandescent based? I want to switch the lighting to a different color as well as go a little brighter.

It isn't LED for sure, not really sure what it's used.

so I finally got around to removing the audio control and opening them up... turns out the lighting is indeed SMT LEDs. There are 3 of them... one for each "block" of controls. I ordered 3 of these:

and will do a DIY in a couple of weeks if anyone is interested.

when i took the audio controls out, it was actually relatively easy. took about 15 min to get the assembly out and apart. seems like there's quite a bit of interest in a DIY, so look forward to it in a couple of weeks! got a couple papers and exams to finish first...

How did you take the controls apart? Can you post some instructions? I'd like to try removing mine too but a bit afraid to break anything. I want to change mine to a brighter color on both sides of the wheel.

i'll be posting a DIY in a week or two, bit busy with college at the moment. I think pictures would help a lot more than text instructions anyway
