I only had a Gen 5 for about 1.5 years and 8000 miles so I never messed with it.

My understanding was that the fuel filter was located in the same place as the fuel pump and that it's not something that needs to be replaced because it's a lifetime item.

I have no idea how to get to it.

If you take off the bottom seat cushion you can get to it. Toyota Fuel filters are designed to be lifetime and should never need to be changed. They use to have it outside, but they moved it into the fuel tank because the infrequent changes.

correct me if I'm wrong but Corollas still have to have their fuel filters replaced right?

I saw a jacked up 2006 Corolla and beside the fuel tank, there seemed to be something that might resmemble a filter...

I dont think so. Our 06 Corolla doesnt need it. Our 92 Previa and 93 Camry doesnt spec the fuel filter to be replaced and those are the 2 oldest Toyotas we have.
