Unhappy transmission valve body -Please help

I had a P0770 code earlier ,and I was draining an refill my tx . I thought I could also clean up the valve body if it was gunked up.I got the valve body out and started working on the side that is facineg upwards.

After I took off the cover of a rectangular cover and tipped it over to drain the fluid,a u-shaped piece fell out. from the maze of channels

I dont know where it fits so Im in deep trouble now.Anybody who has details of the valve body please post them or point me to that direction. The manual on this site dont go into that details.

Please help me out.I am scared to tput it back in the wrong spot and ruin my transmission.

Thanks,
keba

Sounds like a keeper that holds a valve in the valve body. Look closely there should be a couple more. The valves usually have a spring under them in the valve body so you might have to work/hold it in with a pick to slide the keeper back on.

Ok So Far.......

finally;

I closed her all up ,filled with 2 quarts of fluid and then started her and tried moving around the parking lot.she was slipping like crazy and hardly moving at all even at aroun 3000rpm.

I was like ....f@#$ .I got to do this all over again tomorrow...............

Then I remembered I had drained out another quart from the valve body. So I filled her up let her idle in each gear for 5 min and then WHAM..........

She starts driving good.shifts are nicer. No crunching creaking or any braking noises,so i think Im ok.I will do a speed test tomorrow and see what happens.

Heres the not so great part. She would shift in about a second when shifted into gear before, but that seems to have increased....I dont know what that bodes for me.

ok heres more detail into what i did .LONG UNCOORDINTED POST AHEAD .Part Rant also. Please skip now if you will never touch the valve body.

got a P0770 ,thought Id flush but another member said better to drain and refill.so got a gallon of pennzoil dex 3,red gasket maker some solvents to clean.......

removed everything from below till valve body.

VISUALS

There was no metallic stuff in the pan;there was a bit of grey dust which I think is clutch dust, but then it was on the magnets so its probably magnetic.

oil pipes-there are 4 pipes that have to be removed.I was weary of bending them, but they are a snap type and are not very rigidly fixed so it is easy.

valve body -this is one nasty Mother F@#%$#% ;i have never sworn so much at a auto part. anywho, this thing has gaskets all over it and they are very thi so ,please be gentle(i broke off a corner piece);also has these bloody itsy bitsy metallice things to block valves and such.so always work with it facing up,and do one side at a time

Again the valve body was ntot gunked up or anything just had a thin layer of oldish fluid.

the worst task in this whole thing was connect the throttle body cable whilst holding the valve body near its place(if you screw it in there is no wiggle room for your finger or a nose plier to bend the bloody wire into its slot.so i did a trick that I used for doing brakes pads.when i take the caliper off,I rest it on the scissor jack.Did the same for the valve body and then got the TC cable in.

If any of you guys are doing this print out the screw locations and sizes. It is easy to mess it up and get it in the wrong spot(there are 4 different sizes for the valve body alone)

Lots of people mentioned clogged up passages when referring to the valve body.but the passages I saw were nowhere near clog size. What I mean is unless you have gunk the size of lead shot I cant imagine how you would clog this thing up.Again, isaw only one side but the chanels were pretty big.

If anybody has any other questions ,let me know.......thanksto anyone who tried looking for info.....

I got a frozen pizza dinner waiting for (wth Bud Ice Light,of course)

Way to stick to it, and figure her out . I was really surprised when I checked the condition of the strainer in my 94, 5S-FE w/140k miles.... Clean as a whistle with regular drop and fills:

Same thing for the differential.
