I thought it was finally the time to tell you. I have finished my turbo camry, got it tuned, pulled 155whp on the dyno with an auto. all was well... I was driving home from school, then a see a puff of black smoke come out of my tail pipe.. wideband goes RICH..... smoke through the AC vents..... I knew right there... the car was on fire....
I immediatly pulled the car over, lifted up the hood and saw what had happened... flames shooting from the intake manifold area and on top of my heatshield... I run to a house, hoping to god they had a fire extingusiher. The lady wound up having one of those powder ones, put out the fire in less than 15 seconds.
After the fire department came, i really had a chance to see what had happened... my oil return line.. the ONLY THING I DID NOT SPEND MORE ON... deicided to kink and the hose bursted, spewing oil all over my exhaust..... caught fire immediatly.
Damage? Luckily I put it out within 3 min of noticing smoke, everything on my intake manifold is fried, so all the EGR and shit.. all that hosing has to be fixed, my ecu wiring looks okay, a little chared. My map sensor is fried. I dont know anyhting right now, i havent started the engine since the fire.
What have we learned? The biggest problem with people and this car is cheaping out. DOnt get me wrong, I really went all out on this project, from one of the best piggy backs, professionaly tuning, water injection etc.. 1 thing... i overlooked, caught my car on fire.
Thanks God, I am okay, the car is pretty okay and everything is going okay... The bad news is the car needs work.. i owe my family money.. so it looks like im parting the car out...
Sad saga really..
Here is 1 picture... i need the rest for insurance purposes
Could be worse... but I think thanks to my fast reaction.. it wasnt that bad.
Good new for you guys is the turbo stuff (minus the map sensor) is fine...
p.s. I dont even know why i posted thism i have a feeling im going to get flamed. shit happens, life moves on.
