I know that I can get an Avalon or Acura for invoice plus $500, but would this be possible with a base model Accord or Camry?
For instance, an 07 Camry CE Manual trim package (according to Edumnds and CarsDirect) has an invoice of $16,715. The 06 Accord Value Package trim style has an invoice of $16,412.
Considering what you get for these prices, there may just not be much price-fluff in such "bare-bones" deals.

Check out kbb.com, edmunds.com and autos.msn.com for prices. I helped a friend get an 07 Camry SE I4 for $23k plus tax and tags. I believe sticker was $25.5. Depending where you are in the NE we have a lot of members who could probably refer you to dealers. I personally have close relations with a Toyota and Honda dealer in Maryland. Jon.
It doesn't seem to make sense, but dealers do this all the time. First, I read that there is a "kickback" from the automaker on every car a dealer sells, so even if they sold it at cost, they would make money.
Also, I believe the dealer/automaker makes a lot of money by loaning the buyer the cash to buy the car.
And dealers need to move cars. It's one of their biggest concerns. They have only so much space on their lots, and when they can sell a car, there is room for another model, probably a newer, more expensive one.
There are other little ways they make out, such as undercoating, extended warranties, servicing after the sale, etc.

I'm in north-central PA, south of Buffalo, NY. Do you know how much your friend paid over invoice?

$200 over invoice. I used to sell Toyota's myself. The Camry was never made to be a big money maker for Toyota. I would also check out capital one auto financing, they've always had great rates. You don't have to get your financing through TFS. One thing I would suggest to anyone is at the dealer keep everything seperate. Don't talk trade or finance until you like the sales price. Don't talk tax and tags (price on the road) because that is all dependent on the sales price. There is actually a long time member on the forums named Eddie Habeck whose family owns a Toyota dealership in upstate NY. I'll try to find his info for you. There is dealer holdback, etc that is profit for the dealer but if you try to go after that you might as well take a walk, it's still a business. There were some cars I made $50 off of and some I made $1000, Camry's were always $100-200. Jon. ps. check out carmax.com, just to see what the price you should not pay over is. p.p.s. the Camry is not a car that isn't moving, so don't play that hand, undercoating, paint protection, alarm is all profit.I bought a warranty for my Solara that the dealer was selling for $1400 for $520.
Tell me if this is reasonable...My invoice price for an LE 07 is 18,348, if I could get the dealer to start the negotiation at $1000 over 19,348 do you think that is fair? He will also make a profit with all the accessories I decide to add on.
18.348 is base price for LE I4 WITHOUT destination charge of 580 and Toyota dealer advertising fee of ~250-300. Your number is kind of fair but I'll stick at 19,200 (I know it's only 150 off but with that you can get a lip spoiler )

I was actually thinking 19,200 myself. Thanks Yeuemhoai your answer explains a previous post of mines. Can you bargain with the advertising charge?
I purchased my LE, I-4 with a the sunroof package for $100 over invoice. I get this because I used to work at Toyota Motor Sales and still enjoy employee purchase discounts. You may be able to work an even better deal out yourself, but the sales experience is much nicer. I was in and out of the dealership in 2 hours, most of the time was waiting for the car to be prepped.
But if you work with the Fleet Manager or Internet Sales Reps, you should be able to get the same pricing.
I think advertisting fee is a thing of the past. It is priced in the vehicle now.
I definitely don't want to pay $500 over invoice. FYI, a dealer never pay full price for the car. They, like many of you, finance it. A Toyota with $25000 MSRP means a dealer hold back of $500.
At 8%, They may be paying just $200 in interest a month for the car and cars like Camry usually sold within 2 weeks of arrival. If you paid $500 above invoice, that's $800 in profit. Or 400% profit margin. I have not even factor in volume discount offered to dealer by Toyota.
