3rd Generation Knock from the Rt Front..Thanks Tn'ers

I have (had) a knocking noise from the right front of my Gen3.5 coupe, and yea before you say it, I did a search, and found many different causes and solutions.

I was thinking wheel bearing, strut mount, or strut itself, all of which I would have to pay a mechanic to fix or replace, as I don't have the proper tools to do (not to mention knowledge)

This morning I put a socket wrench on the "damper nut" on top of the strut, (visible when you open the hood) and found it was 3/4 turn loose! The drivers side was tight!

The knocking is gone now Wow! how close I came to being ripoffed by dishonest mechanic . What a wonderful day!

This could have cost me 100's of dollars if it weren't for TN...I just want to say Thanks!!

good to hear....but by the same token- find a GOOD mechanic, and if you had simple problems like that, they should fix if for your for free anyway

Thats the problem!! A person never knows if their telling the truth!!

You tell them you have a knock in the front. There's probably 20 things they could through parts at, struts, springs, bearing, stut mounts, engine mounts, brakes, calipers, etc etc. If a person is clueless they could spend alot of money and still have the problem..........been there done that!!

A mechanic isn't going to make money by turning a damper nut 3/4 of a turn!

A good "Best Friend" to have is a toyota mechanic!...... Being a member here has saved me loads of money.

I have a mechanic that is a "former" toyota specialist, but he's not a friend! He'll make every nickle and dime he can off me, because he thinks I don't know!!.......He's right, I don't!.........but I have TN!!!

Thanks again!...Joe
