3rd Generation Installing my Ripp Headers

I was lucky enough to get my hands on a set of used Rippmods headers for my Cammy.
I have a 94 5sfe (obviously) and I have a few questions on installing the headers-
There are two sensors on the OEM setup, one on the headers another on the down pipe, the headers have a hole only for one, the second sensor (the one towards the bottom) does not have a hole for it, will I have to drill the bottom half of the headers or can I skip that sensor without giving me major problems (fuel economy, performance).
My second question involves redoing the cat back; to see maximum benefits from the headers I take it that I should get a high low cat and 2.25in piping. My question is this: I know it will help but is the cost worth it? Are we talking a extra 2-3 hp on top of what the headers will do or an extra 5-6 or more, what are your thoughts guys?

My best advice to you is to custom weld a o2 bung for the second o2 sensor. For the exhaust system do it by this step. Header, downpipe, high flow cat, resonator if you want, then the muffler. 2.5 piping is recommended but 2.25 is okay. If you need pics of the header go to my cardomain. 2nd page I believe or the 3rd page.

Good Luck

2.5 is just a little to big.... You will lose back pressure on a pipe that big. I would stay woth 2.25

You should have one o2 sensor before the cat, and one sensor after.

nothing wrong with 2.5" might not sound like you want though but nothing wirong. you wont make any power like running with the headers on and no exhaust, so the mroe free it is after the better, its just that something big will sound shit.

2.25" is the right piping for a 5sfe with no forced induction

actaully no piping is the right size, fitting anything after the 4-2-1 headers will make you start loosing power.

3rd Generation

Calvin, how are your HP gains? are you getting some decent acceleration? Have you thought about a pulley? Ive seen setups with them that seem to be pretty reliable and the rev speed is greatly improved.
Also a question for the general community: My heat shield around the alternator is missing
(for the headers), is this going to be a problem?

Hey sorry man, I actually don't have the car anymore it was totaled in an accident. But yeah the pulley will help out. I forget what brand name it was, I think it was the findaza or something not sure. But hopefully you can find it. Good Luck.

2.25" is the biggest one should go on 2 liters any more than that and exhaust velocity falls off to the point where you lose all the scavaging resulting in very noticeable loss in low end launch power. since its still normally aspirated going bigger for flow handling, is not even needed.

Cool

A smaller pipe will hit the velocity range where peak torque will occure sooner than a larger pipe, along with becoming more restrictive in the process.
The larger the pipe, the farther away you shift the gain & fall-off. 2.5 is plenty well fine. 3" is getting abit silly VS what you make unless you have some big cams & porting on that head. Or some form of FI.

The header should have came with a cat already from ripp but i know you got it used. You're going to have to do custom piping or making an adaptor anyways because it doesn't just bolt up to the stock cat from what I remember ripp saying. If you do that, then just tell them to weld another o2 bung after the cat. You also might get a CE.
