2nd Generation 2VZFE... Showing NO OIL ON DIPSTICK!

Hey I have a 89 V6 Camry with 91,433 miles on it. It was once sitting for 5-7 yrs in my garage at one time, afterwards the water pump and timing belt were replaced by toyota. I kept up regularly with my oil changes every 3,000 miles. I just started to put Castrol High Mileage 10W40 in it with a Purulator blue filter (most expensive filter). The oil change was done 3-4 months ago at 89,600 miles and today i went to check my oil and the dipstick said there was NO OIL whatsoever! I'm like WTF!!! So I defenitely didnt try to start it. I added 2 quarts of oil and it said it was near full. So today i start the car, drive it a bit, and check the oil, the dipstick said its now a little past the Full mark! WTF does the car have too much oil?? It does feel more sluggish wen i rev it..... Its been having this same problem for about the last 20,000 miles but I though nothing of it... WTF is wrong with my motor??! Its weird because it said empty once when i went to change the oil, and when i released the drain plug and 4 1/2 quarts exactly came out.....

This is a confusing question you pose - Your dipstick or tube must be bent. Or the lighting was so bright /oil so clean you couldnt tell the oil was on the dipstick? Or maybe there was water in the engine oil from sitting for a long time? And driving evaporated the water ? Hard to say not knowing anything about the car.

Maybe the reason the dipstick reads over full now is maybe because you didnt wait long enough for the oil to drain down after adding it. So when it sits for 10 minutes it shows the real oil level.
Fingers crossed, maybe change the oil or at least drain the excess out and hopefully there's no expensive engine noises. And check the oil every time you gas up til you figure out where the oil leaked out from, and fix it.

Next oil change, put in the amount you know is correct. After running the engine fil filter, let it sit for 10 minutes and check your dipstick. You might have to remark the dipstick. Real weird engine ya got there LOL

The overfill problem was most likely a timing thing, like Marc said.

When a car sits around for a long time, the seals and gaskets will dry out and crack, causing it to leak. This is probably why it lost the oil in the first place.

As long as it it not more than 1/2" above the full mark I wouldn't bother draining it. It will probably be normal in a week or so on its own.
