i have a 89 toyota camry 5speed manual i have the 3sfe 16v 4cyl. motor i have only had a custome intake built i was wanting to know if there are any other mods out there i know that the celica has a 3sfe motor. so with that can i change the cpu to upgrade my motor and also will the headers from the 3sfe celica motor fit on my 3sfe camry motor i can not see no visual difference in the motors. and one last thing i am thinking about changing my motor i was thinking about the 3sgte or a jdm equilivent (speeling not that great sorry)
There are no mods that will give you a noticable difference in performance, which is the reason I am gonna keep my 3sfe stock until it dies. If you are interested in serious performance (~300hp), then the 3sgte swap is for you. It is gonna end up costing more than your car is worth, but tripling your car's horsepower doesn't come cheap.
If you're interested, search the forums for more info.

well i was thinking about putting the 3gtse in my camry but like you said it will cost MAD DOUGH!!! like i said already i have a custome intake i have also removed the front left drive light and made a custome ramed air flow for the intake i also had the intake manifold bored a little i have got about 19 horsepower extra doing that. that only cost me about $200 for everything because i have a couple good friends. i am looking at having a custome built header for the car and that is going to run me about $300 i also am going to change the exhaust piping from 1 3/4 to 2 1/8 and running a performence exhaust. i have also been looking the esfe is the same that they run in the celica but just a different cpu so i was looking at upgrading my wire harness and cpu on idea on cost. that is what i have planed for the near future. if you have any ideas please let me know.
ps i am trying to have someing of my own that is why i am trying to stay with the 3sfe all my buddys have mr2's, 350z's, lancer's. i know that i wont be able to compare to what thy have but i want to be unique.
The 3s-fe Celica and Camry should be the same. Don't upgrade your wiring or ECU (Toyota does NOT call it a CPU like you stated).
What's your budget and your goals for the car? Maybe we can help you out better if we know those things.
A motor swap will run you anywhere between about $4k and $8k to complete, depending on how much of the work you do yourself and what parts you choose to go with.

well for my spending buget i have about 3k right now. for as what i am trying to do with the car i am just looking to be different from all my friends i know that it is not going to be the car for racing but i am going for something that no one around here has. i have some friends that own there own shop so all i have to do i get the parts and i have a guy that is going to do all the body work that i want to do, he is going to do it for free if i put his logo on my car so i said sure because what i want to do is going to cost a little over 10k i want to chop the top and lower it about 2" and i am shaving of the rear doors i am changing the head light to the 93 honda accords LED lights and the tail lights i am going for is the 99 prelude altzea tail lights. he is going to custome fit a body kit for it (not sure what sytle yet) i am getting a gas shocks lowering kit and 16" gun metal rims. so yea it is a lot of work and it is going to take time i am thinking i will be done with it about this time next year. (HOPING)
as for the performance i am not going for nothing major i am just wanting something a little more trying to get about 200 - 220 horses basicly something that runs good and get up and go and that does not sound like a coffee can going down the road.

ahahahaha, no offense, but there's no way you're gonna get that kinda power from you camry unless you do something major. A 3sge might be able to put that kind of power out with a little tuning, and is a cheaper n/a alternative to the 3sgte.
As for your "modding" plans... oh boy are you gonna get flamed because most people around here don't like rice. I could care less if that's what makes you happy, but there's no way in hell i would do the same mods to any car I owned.
Also, if you got 3k to spend, you might want to consider an older f-body or a dsm to satisfy your horsepower needs.

well i know that i am going to have problems with what people say but rightly i dont care because i am trying to be different and everyone here has like the same 5 cars (civic, integra, 350z, rx8, and or the eclispe and a few have the lancer and the subura) i kinda knew that i was going to have to do and engine swap but i was wanting to find and easier way with performance bolt ons so i dont have to be out a car for a few days because i dont get my new car till the end of this year and once i got my new car that is when i was going to do all the major stuff (engine swap if need be and all my body mods) so that way it will be ready for next summer
also is there any sites out there that has lowering kits and body kits for the 89 camry that i have and cheap body parts the other day i got hit in the parking lot at the mall and i need a new front drive side fender and new front bumper all i found for stock bumpers is like $150 but i have not go to the junkyard yet. i am hella PO'd but it is not that bad no damage to the frame. the thing that makes it worse is that the guy just drove off so my insurance is not going to cover it. but i guess this i kinda a blessing in a way. i get to start on my body mods now. well if you peps have any ideas let me know.
