4th Generation tire review: kumho solus K16s

i dont know if this is in the wrong section, but i thought id just share my opinions on these tires...

well, finally after 64K, the stock michelin MXV4+s on my 4.5 were out...so i decided to replace them with something a little more cost effective...i stumbled upon the kumho solus K16s...the price in unison with the specs could not be beat...however, when buying tires, you must realize that specs alone should not be the deciding factor...

price: $260.32 for a set of 205/60/16s and 1 day shipping from tirerack...i would have gotten it from discount tires for their free shipping, but they didnt have the solus'

specs:
non directional
440 treadwear (higher than the michelins)
AA wet traction (higher than the michelins)
A temperature (on par with the michelins)
H-rated (on par with the michelins)
but dont forget that the michelins are $136 a piece plus shipping...

driving impression:
at 36psi all around, the car felt alive again...i dont know if my michelins were low on pressure or if the sidewall has been weakened after 64K and 5 whole yrs, but the kumhos felt great! very crisp and responsive...the next day, i was on my usual route and decided to put them to the test...on ramps, off ramps, no signs of tire squel at all...the ride has become more responsive and stiff (due to new sidewalls or stronger sidewalls has yet to be determined)...but so far, no complaints what so ever...however, i have yet to test them in the water

conclusion:
so basically, if youre looking for some oem replacements that meet or exceed the factory's requirements at a fraction of the cost, i would highly look into the kumhos...they have higher treadwear for all you commuters out there such as myself, they have a higher wet traction rating than the michelins, and theyre still H-rated, which is the manufacturer's standard...they are not directional so that leaves you able to utilize a FULL tire rotation schedule; not just front to back, they come with factory 60,000 mile warranty, and best of all, they only cost me $65.08 a piece...

you also must remember OEM tyres are different to off the shelf ones, and that youre also comparing a new tyre with an oldone =)

a quick look at the tread tells me it should be decent i the wet, give you an ok straight line feel and almost reasonable cornering =)

next time wait until you break the tyres in before posting impressions =) your opinion will change again, probably for the better,or it coul dbe worse as most tyres start getting much noisier as tread wears down.

im not bashing khumo, they make awesome tyres, the ecxta's are among the absolute best UHP tyres you can buy.
