Gen5 Swap automatic AC controls in manual AC controlled Camry?

I got my hands on the automatic AC controls for my 2002 camry. My car currently has the manual controls, and wouldn't you know it, the plugs are different

So, I have a spare manual control set too... I am thinking of taking the connector out of the that one, and wiring it to the inputs on the back of the automatic controls, so I can then plug in the automatic AC controls, without touching the stock wiring.

Good idea / bad idea? It looks like there are the exact same number of wires going into both, so it should just be mapping them over to the right spots... is there a chance I could fry something other than the automatic AC controls? I looked at the wiring diagrams posted (thanks whomever did that), and am having a hard time decyphering them.

Any help / advice? Thanks!

Mark

I confess I don't know Toyotas at this point, but I would imagine like any other car I've had this on, aren't you lacking the sensor input that allows the automatic climate control to know when to come on and when not to? I just don't see how this could work in automatic mode without it.

I opened up the automatic controls, and it looks like the sensors are built in. Anyone else?

I believe there should also be a sensor on the dash. I took a quick look at the FSM and there are some parts that are different b/w the Auto and Manual AC.

There is a temp sensor that needs to be retrofitted as well. For the amount of work involved, just go buy wheels dude!

not much money involved seeing as I already have the controls I could get a temp sensor from a crash lot. I read through those threads too... can anyone look at the FSM and confirm needing a different servo motor? Part number? Thanks

yeah i agree, it's probably a lot more involved than it seems... i don't think simply rewiring the stock computer to the automatic controls would do it... don't forget the automatic climate control has a thermostat and the manual doesnt... so that would require a temp sensor and possibly having to reprogram the on-board computer... it just seems like more work than its worth...

Has anyone actually tried it and can anyone confirm that the sensor on the dash is actually for the auto climate control? Maybe the temp sensor is built in. I just ask because no one ever verified anything.

Yes the sensor on the dash is part of the climate control. Also, if you look just below or around the key ignition there are some little slits (openings) and behind it is another sensor for the clilmate control. I found this out by reading the service manuals.
