4th Generation brake-light issue

straight to the point, my brake lights aren't working. my taillights do work fine, but it's just whenever i brake they don't fully light up.

none of my warning lights are on either, but there are two noticable things. first, my spoiler light and the rear-dashboard light doesn't light up at all anymore.

i checked the fuse for the taillight and it seems fine. so does anyone have any ideas as to how to fix this? i have no idea as to where to pinpoint the problem...any help is appreciated, thanks

YOu should see it , if you foolow the brake lever up from the brake pedal. The switch body is stationary but it has a post that, the brake pedal lever , pushes in and out.

Exactly. When you depress the pedal the post should extend out of the switch.

yea...for the post, i assume it's the black & thick-looking rubber tube. and yes it does properly extend out as i depress the pedal.

as for this other small stationary portion, it looks as if this rod is going into some kind of port, which is then connected to a blue harness. everything looks good there too when pressing the pedal.

any other thoughts? correct me if i'm wrong about the things that i checked out

If you have a meter DMM you can check to ensure the switch is functioning by reading resistance across the two pins in the switch connector when it is unplugged, when the pedal is pressed it should read some slight resistance or 0.0 when the pedal is not pressed it should read OL.

You should also have 12 VDC on one leg of the wiring harness when it is disconnected. I'm not sure which color wire for yours is hot on my Matrix it is the red wire with a white strip.

The only other thing I can think of is the 15 ampere stop fuse, Which in the Corolla is located directly next to the tail light fuse inside under the dash.
