3rd Generation engine flush neccassary?

Hi people!

I have a 95 camry v6 with 65,800. I'll be switching over to synthenic oil on my next oil change. Is it neccassary to flush the engine first before hand?

Thanks for your answers.

nope, not at all

just do oil changes as you noramlly would- after a number of oil changes, you'll be running 100% synthetic

also, a lot of times, flushing an engine can do more harm than good. it'll break loose any coked up oil and such that's holding any leaks from happening. most notable are valve guide seals. i just dont care for the stuff personally. i would just do the oil change and like eye8pussies said, after a few changes, you'll be totally synthetic.

Thanks guys! I'm still going to change the oil every 3000 miles when I switch to synthenic.

Just switch whenever you want. Flush not needed.

Meh, I do a flush every once in a while to see what goodies fall out.

If its garbage stopping a leak, I would rather it came loose and out then have it plug up an oil passage somewhere. I would rather change gaskets.

A lot of gaskets will fail over time in a car. Heat and constant expansion/contraction will break rubber up. Just the facts of life, it does not matter what you have - it will leak eventually.

176K on mine and other then it's gas consumption (driver's fault) - I dig it.

it woudlnt be necessary to change to synthetic and pay 3-4 more dollars per quart of oil if you're just going to change it just as often as regular dyno oil.
synthetic oil is thinner and may cause leaking anyways (besides an engine flush).

Ive done flushes and used all kinds of oil with no problems on my 90K car.

Right now i am using synthetic blend and i am perfectly happy with it. It can last up to 7500K but i'll change at 5. At 3K using a bosch filter, the oil looks pretty darn clean and its only begning to turn yellow. And keep in mind i drive hard. Changing synthetic at 3K really is a waste. Our new highlander has fully synthetic from mobil 1 with their filter. We will change in 12 months or 10K. It says 12 months or 15K...but 15K is just too much for me.

So think about it. If you're wallet is that big, then by all means do as you wish, but i'm just saying what you want to do is unecessary. For a camry i think Synthetic Blend is awesome stuff.
