I'm back! pics and updates inside! **56k Warning**
Ah so after selling my 1st Camry in the fall, I was in need of another vehicle come summer time to get me to a job and back to pay for University. Well I wasn't going to consider another one but this one just caught my eye, since this was the car I always wished I was driving when I had my old one.
So for reference, here is my old one - '94 LE 4cyl, auto
...
And the new one - '92 LE Sport, 3vz, 5sp (You'll notice some differences between the USDM model, not sure why they are like that)
...
...
It's pretty sweet and I really enjoy driving it...MUCH more fun than my last one that's for sure. If you want one of your own I'll sell you this one for 4k CAD..heh
Oh we also have 1 of very few 2007 Black Yaris Sedan's with the Aero Package
...
I'm looking for things to complete the Sport - I need a new black steering wheel, chrome exhaust tips and I'd like a rear trunk panel in colour #923 from a 95-96. If you can help, just PM
very nice upgrade, and a nice find on a rare gen3 v6 manual....
whats up with that sport badge under the V6 LE??
did someone put that on
Hey, thanks. That's what I mean when I say the differences between the .ca market the US. This car is the same as your SE's, but we have reflective trunk panels and it says LE Sport instead of SE. We also had 4cyl "Touring" trims, which were your 4cyl XLE's I think.

It also has body-colored side-view mirrors versus black-out on the US SE model. It's hard to tell if the window trim is chrome like your old car, but that's blacked out on US models too.
Body looks in great condition, better than mine for sure. The steering wheel looks about like mine... which is to say a bit rough. I'm looking to get mine recovered, since I like a stock look and I'm having a hard time finding one to fit mine. If you want a new steering wheel, you might consider contacting TAP Recycling, they just got in a damaged white Gen 3 SE. I called and asked about the steering wheel and they're charging $150 for it. They're at www.taprecycling.com or 800-765-7100. For what it's worth, the white SE is vehicle # 06239, and it is Japanese-built (which should mean it's a 3-bolt airbag mounting versus a 2-bolt... and yes it makes a difference). If yours is a 2-bolt mounting, there is another option that I might be able to help with. Let me know what yours is if you can check.
I have another bit of advice: find a short shifter. I built my own (just the lever, fit it back into the stock mounting) and it's a lot nicer.
Hey thanks! I'm not sure about the leather. This trim of Camry has special seats/fabric so I might just leave it at that.
Only mods I have done so far is a k&n drop in and I leaned out the a/f. It needs a bit of love but other than that it runs like a champ!
$150 for a new wheel seems kind of steep, I wish there was another option since it's wearing past the leather and now it's all sticky. It's definatley built in Japan since the vin begins with a J. Are they including the airbag for that price? I'm trying to clean this one up so I can flip it at the end of the summer.

Where do I find a short shifter?
Well, $150 is a lot less than buying one new from the factory (easily $500 or more for that), and I'm sure that's TAP's take on pricing. But I definitely agree it's a lot, especially when it's used too and who knows what it looks like. Note that I didn't spring for it myself and that's the wheel I need too.
I had a similar problem with my stock shift knob. I bought about $5 worth of scrap leather and restitched it. I'll probably find some leather and redo my wheel as well (probably re-do the fake leather shift boot while I'm at it). Easiest route? Nope. Best route? I'm sure some would say no. Part of me just enjoys the challenge.
I'd check out eBay, you will find black steering wheels occasionally (they're relatively rare, though). Do yourself a favor if you're looking and find out how many bolts you have mounting your airbag. The black plastic trim on the "back" of the wheel has knockouts at the 3 and 9 o'clock positions... remove those and you'll see the torx nuts for the airbags, either 2 or 3. Unless you want to get a new airbag as well, you'll want to match that to the wheel you buy.
Do me a favor if you check... post the number (2 or 3) here on the board... or PM me. I might be able to help further.
As for short shift, I'm not sure if the TRD short shifter for the Gen4 Camry will work. I pulled my shifter out, took measurements, drew a new one on AutoCAD and had it built for me from scratch. It cost me about $100. I've heard others who simply cut and rewelded the lever. There are different appraoches, but the results are worth it.
That's the knob I restitched... turned out well. You can also see the big scratch at the bottom of my wheel. I hate that!

Oh, and I forgot to mention-- I can almost guarantee you they're not including the airbag, it would be a lot more if they did.
So you're looking to clean it up and sell it? Dang, I wish I were closer I'd love to have another Gen3 5-speed. Of course, that probably wouldn't be practical, but who cares.

Thanks for the great info! There's not too many of us SE owners around, gotta stick together!
Ideally I can get more than what I paid for it, since I got a pretty good deal. I am a student and $$ takes precedence over having a fun car to drive. I'd like to keep it and continue to upgrade and that just may be the case.
Does anyone know WHY there are differences between the US and CDN trim's? There doesn't seem like much of a reason when all they would need to do is switch out the speedo's - are the markets that different they need to alter the cars to sell?
