2nd Generation front wheel bearings

Hey guys I did a search and didn't find anything about it so here goes. Has anybody changed out their front wheel bearings and if so how did you go about getting the bearing out of the knuckle?? I can pull the knuckle but have never pulled out this kind of bearing before so any help would be greatly appreciated.

ok, it sounds to me like you are talking about cv joints. if you are gonna work on cv joints you mindas well just change the axel its kinda less of a headache. i would go to advance or pepboys and get a haynes manual for your car as it can explain everything in greater detail than ppl can over the internet.

You gotta use a hydraulic press to do it right. Pull the hub then take it to a garage and have them press the old one out and press the new ones in. Reinstall hub. Align the front end.

^ What he said.

Instead of replacing the bearing, you can replace the entire knuckle. Pull one from a junkyard, but make sure its good.

For me it ended up being easier and cheaper then buying the bearing, seals, and having it pressed in/out.

On my old dodge minivan (smililar layout) the parts store had rebuilt knuckles available, which cost about 25 or so dollars more than the front bearings that they sold, as long as the used knuckle assembly was returned for the core. Then I would have to install new dirt seals on the CV Joint side as well.

I only found out after I hammered one bad bearing out to take to the store to compare.

If you choose to press in the bearing yourself, be sure to use high pressure grease in the bearing seat.
